Leathernecks Set for OVC Road Test

Last Time Out | Western Illinois took on their second OVC opponent in Lindenwood on Sept. 20. The Leathernecks fell in straight sets to the Lions. Maggie Craker led the way with a double-double with 20 assists and 13 digs. Brittany Wulf had ten kills in the loss.

1,000 Dig Club | Karli Wenzel was introduced into the 1,000 Dig Club on Sept. 15. The junior posted 35 digs at Missouri State, putting her across the 1,000 dig mark. Wenzel is currently sitting at 1,011 career digs.

Climbing the Record Book | Maggie Craker and Karli Wenzel are on the verge of cracking the top ten in career assists and digs. Craker currently sits at 1,362 career assists, 126 assists away from Jaime Johnson and Caryn Heise, who sit at 1,488. Wenzel enters the weekend at 1,011 career digs. Just 115 digs away from Rachel Horvat for the number ten spot.

Top Half of the OVC | Keyana Cruse has been leading the offensive charge for the Leathernecks this season. The Bonner Springs native currently sits third in the OVC in kills per set (3.68) and points per set (4.11)

Team Blocking | Western Illinois, as a team, currently sits in fourth place in the OVC in blocks. The Leathernecks are averaging 1.91 blocks per set. Julianna Schmidt leads the way for WIU, sitting in fourth place in the OVC with 0.98 blocks per set. 

Scouting Morehead State | Morehead State started their OVC play with a trip to SEMO last weekend. The Eagles fell in both matches against the Redhawks 3-1,3-0. Maycie Welborn and M.E. Hargan lead the Eagles' offense, averaging over 3.00 kills per set. Morehead State ranks second in the OVC in points, opponent hitting percentage, hitting percentage, assists, opponent kills, kills, and digs.
