Defense Holds Strong As Leathernecks Pick Up Second OVC Point

Sunday's match with Morehead State ends in 0-0 draw

MOREHEAD, KY -- Western played its first ever road Ohio Valley Conference match on Sunday, a matchup with the Eagles of Morehead State. The Leathernecks played stout defense all game in a match that ended in a scoreless draw.

Three defenders - Emmy Ellington, Ali Matthews, and Rita Moran - all played the full ninety minutes in Sunday's effort. All three defenders helped the Leathernecks get their second clean sheet of the season, as Morehead State took 24 shots, but were unable to score at all. Western only got two shots off in the match, as Morehead State dominated possession.

Senior goalkeeper Isabel Navas Rodriguez made 5 saves on the day, as she picked up her fourth clean sheet of the year, and is two-for-two in shutouts in OVC play. Rodriguez now stands tied for first in the conference with four shutouts.

Western now holds a record of 2-4-3, with an 0-0-2 record in conference play. Sunday's match marks the first time Morehead State has dropped points in conference play, as they now sit with an OVC record of 2-0-1.

Looking ahead to next week, the Leathernecks will take on UT-Martin away on Thursday, and will host Southern Indiana on Sunday.
