Leathernecks Travel to Popcorn Classic

Last Time Out | The Leathernecks hosted the Leatherneck Classic last weekend, falling in both matches. WIU opened on Friday night, dropping three sets to Cleveland State. Brittany Wulf led the Leathernecks with nine kills. WIU returned to the court on Saturday afternoon, falling to Murray State in four sets.

New Leathernecks | Eight Leathernecks saw themselves touch the playing floor for the first time in a Leathernecks uniform. Keyana Cruse brought the most significant light, leading WIU with 16 kills on Saturday's match-up against Murray State. Cruse also ended with ten digs to 

Returning Stars | Juniors Karli Wenzel, Brittany Wulf, and Maggie Craker played in all seven sets this past weekend. Wulf led the team in kills with nine on Friday, and Wenzel and Craker led the team in digs and assists in both matches.

Ohio Valley Polls | Western Illinois came in the 10th place spot in the OVC preseason poll. Collecting 40 points, the Leathernecks sit ahead of Southern Indiana and just below Little Rock. Southeast Missouri and Tennessee Tech tied for first place with 168 points.

Scouting Valparaiso | Valpo fell to the University of Illinois on Tuesday night in straight sets. Mallory Januski led the team with seven kills on Tuesday night. Last season, Januski set Valpo's single-season hitting percentage record. The Beacons are predicted to finish 6th place in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Scouting Oakland | Oakland enters the weekend with a 1-2 record, defeating old Summit League opponent St. Thomas following losses to the Lindenwood Lions and UIC Flames. Emily Wichmann was named to the Chicago Classic tournament team as she sits just seven digs away from moving into the top ten in the school's history.

Scouting Eastern Michigan | Eastern Michigan fell in all three opening weekend matches. Callie Minshew led all EMU players in kills in all three games, helping her be named to the all-tournament team.
