Previous Matchup: Western is 1-2 in its last three matchups against the Huskies, with a 3-0 win last year in DeKalb being the last time the Leathernecks were victorious in the matchup. Current Senior Sydnee Sagal is the only returning player to score in last year's matchup.

So far this season: The Leathernecks finished 1-1 in the exhibition season. They opened the first of two exhibition games with a 1-0 loss at home to Drake, followed up by a 4-0 win against Southeastern CC. Four different Leathernecks scored in the win, Sydnee Sagal, and three newcomers, Kelsi McThenia, Elise Bush, and Sachiko Gamo.

Players to Watch: Isabel Navas Rodriguez has been with the program since 2021 and started in net in both exhibition matches. Last year, she led all Summit League players in saves.
Emmy Ellington was named as a player to watch as part of the OVC's preseason poll. 2023 marks Emmy's third year with the program, as she played in and started every game for the Leathernecks in '22.

Scouting the Opponent: NIU finished 6-8-4 in the 2022 season, finishing 8th in the Mid-American Conference. Forward Amber Best returns, as she was the team's leading scorer in 2022.

What's Next: The women will travel to Chicago St. on Saturday to play the team's first road game of the season, at 12:30 P.M. This season marks the first that the team will play in the Ohio Valley Conference, and their first OVC matchup will be against Southeastern Missouri State on September 21.
