WIU Baseball Falls at NDSU

MACOMB, Ill – Western Illinois Baseball team fell in the final game against North Dakota State. The Bison outlasted the Leathernecks 21-3 in the series finale on Sunday (Apr. 30) afternoon.

North Dakota State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead scoring their runs in the 1st inning. WIU would get on the scoreboard in the 4th inning. Derek Botaletto started off the inning singling to center field. Jake Allgeyer would follow him with a single of his own to the right. Botaletto, who was in motion, would move to third base on the single. Adam Juran would take advantage of having Botaletto in scoring position with a sacrifice fly to cut WIU's deficit in half.

NDSU would add 13 runs before WIU would score again. Down 15-1 in the 6th inning, WIU would start with three singles in a row. Kyree Alexander started the inning by lining it to left field. Botaletto followed Alexander's single with one of his own. Allgeyer jumped in on the action hitting the second pitch to left field to load the bases. Juran would wear the next pitch on the elbow, taking his free pass to first base and bringing in Alexander. Ricky Pospisil would have WIU's second sacrifice fly bringing home Botalletto.

Derek Botaletto and Jake Allgeyer both had two hits to lead WIU. Adam Juran and Nick Mitchell walked, helping WIU with two walks in the afternoon. Nick Mitchell extends his on-base streak to 20 games with his walk in the 7th inning.

WIU returns home to face Lindenwood on Tuesday (May 2). The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Alfred D. Boyer.
