Previous matchup:Â The Leathernecks and Tommies have faced off two times before, in 2021 and 2022. In 2021, Western won 2-1 as both goals were assisted by current graduate student
Kyle Owen. Owen also scored the winner in 2022's matchup. Western and St. Thomas will square off again on November 4th.Â
Scouting the opponents:Â St. Thomas recently picked up its first point in Summit League play last Friday, in a match where the Tommies hosted Kansas City. St. Thomas also beat Milwaukee in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, picking up their second win of the year. The Tommies are led by junior forward Faris Colic, who's made three contributions to the team's seven goals on the season.Â
So far this season:Â Western has opened the season with a 1-8-1 record. The Leathernecks picked up their first win of the season on September 16th against in-state rival Eastern Illinois. Western is looking to pick up their first point in Summit League play on Saturday.Â
Players to watch:Â Quebec native
Xavier Gagnon has scored two of the team's three goals this season, most recently scoring one against Northern Kentucky last week.
Kyle Owen currently leads the team with 13 shot attempts on the year, while also leading the team in minutes played. Sophomore forward
Liam Gainey recently returned from injury and was back in the starting eleven last Saturday against Omaha. TheÂ
What's next:Â Western stays in Macomb for the next week, as they host IUPUI on Tuesday for their last nonconference matchup. The Leathernecks will then take on Denver on Saturday, October 14th.Â
