Leathernecks Suffer Loss at Oral Roberts

Western lost 2-0 in a match played in Tulsa on Saturday night

TULSA, OK -- Western looked to better its position in the Summit League standings on Saturday night when the Leathernecks took on #25 Oral Roberts on Saturday night. Unfortunately, the Leathernecks would take another tough loss against the Golden Eagles, who now hold a four-match win streak in the matchup.

Oral Roberts was statistically dominant on the evening, out-shooting the Leathernecks 26-3, tallying eight shots on goal while the Leathernecks failed to get one, and getting seven corner kicks to the Leathernecks one. Western struggled to build possession in Oral Roberts' half, as it seemed any time they started to build-up play, a Leatherneck would be tackled or a pass intercepted. Oral Roberts got their pair of goals towards the end of the first half, taking a two-nil lead into the break that would end up being the final score.

Seven different Leathernecks tallied 89 minutes or more on the night, as defenders Arber Shala and Joel McIntyre were able to make some solid tackles and deflections to prevent the Golden Eagles from scoring in the second period. Keeper Youssou Ouendeno was able to turn away six shots from Oral Roberts, as he faced a season-high twenty-six shots. All around, the Leathernecks fared decently well in the second half, as they didn't allow a goal on ten shot attempts.

Western will close out the Summit League season over the next two Saturdays, with Senior Day this coming Saturday against Omaha, followed by a road match in St. Paul against St. Thomas on November 4th to close the regular season.
