Western faced off against Kansas City on Wednesday night in a Summit League Clash

Box Score KANSAS CITY, MO -- Western began a two-game, four-day road trip on Wednesday night when the Leathernecks traveled to Kansas City to take on the Roos in the squads' sole matchup of the Summit League regular season.

The Leathernecks started out hot on the attacking front, dominating in the Roos' third for a good portion of the first period. Western got a pair of chances from free kicks, as well as a corner kick inside fifteen minutes, but were not able to get a shot off until the 19th minute. Off of a corner whipped in from freshman Aidan Breslin, Stockholm native Oskar Grevelius absolutely hammered a volley towards the goal, but was unlucky as the ball hit the side of the net. That chance would be one of the best the Leathernecks got in the match, at least until the second half.

Right around midway through the first half, the momentum would seemingly shift in favor of the Roos, and they finished strong with a twenty minutes of play. The Leatherneck defense would prove to be too strong for the Roos in the first half though, as even though they had a lot of possession, key players stepped up and made big plays to go into halftime level at zero.

Kansas City came out swinging in the second half though, getting a goal just twenty-one seconds into the half, and the Roos wouldn't look back, scoring two more second half goals as Western was simply outplayed in the half. Western did have a few chances, including a 78th minute chance from Kyle Owen, but KC's keeper picked up his only save of the match on the shot as the ball bounced off his leg and out of play. Wednesday's match was the first win of the Summit League season for the Roos.

Looking ahead, the Leathernecks will travel to Tulsa on Saturday to take on the Golden Eagles of Oral Roberts.
