WIU Heads to Chicago State, Welcomes Southern Indiana

Last Time Out | Western Illinois finished their second-weekend road trip in the OVC, splitting their matches with UT Martin. The Leathernecks won Friday's matchup, sweeping the Skyhawks in straight sets. This was the first 3-0 victory for the Leathernecks this season. WIU fell in four sets on Saturday afternoon. Keyana Cruse and Julianna Schmidt led WIU with over 20 kills.

OVC Standings | Western Illinois is off to its best start in conference play since 2007. WIU sits with a 5-3 record, currently tied for 3rd place in the league. Southern Indiana has a 5-5 record, sitting in 5th place.

Middle Block | Middle blockers Julianna Schmidt and Grace Kremer led the block attack for Western Illinois against UT Martin. The Leathernecks out-blocked the Skyhawks 26-11, with Kremer and Schmidt having a combined 22 total blocks.

Breaking Records | Karli Wenzel moved into the top ten in all-time career digs over the weekend. She has passed Rachel Horvat and moved into the top ten with 1,229 career digs. She sits four digs away from passing Ellen Miller for 9th on the list.

Top Half of the OVC | Keyana Cruse has been leading the offensive charge for the Leathernecks this season. The Bonner Springs native currently sits fourth in the OVC in kills per set (3.37) 

Scouting Chicago State | This will be the second matchup with the Cougars this season. Chicago State took the match 3-0 on October 3rd. Yanlis Feliz led the Cougars with 11 kills in the first matchup. The Cougars are 9-5 overall and have not played since the last time these two teams squared off.

Scouting Southern Indiana | Southern Indiana comes into the weekend on a three-game losing streak after dropping both of their matches to Morehead State. The Screaming Eagles fell on Friday in straight sets before falling in five sets on Saturday.
