Previous matchup: Western and Eastern have had a long history of matches played against one another, as the Panthers hold a 10-6-2 record against the Leathernecks. Thursday's match will be the first one between the two sides played in Macomb since 2015.
Western and SIUE have only played four matches in the program's history. SIUE has a 2-1-1 record against Western. The last two matches between the Cougars and Leathernecks both went to overtime.

Scouting the opponents: Eastern hasn't had the best start to the OVC season, losing three of their last five games. The Panthers have a 2-7-3 record overall, with their lone non-conference win coming against Division 2 UI-Springfield. EIU is led by freshman Abby Reinl, who has tallied nine points on the season, ranking sixth in the OVC.
SIUE has had a solid start to OVC play, as they have picked up eight points on the year and stand in fifth place in the conference, as of 10/11. Last week, the Cougars picked up two points in two matches, drawing against Little Rock and Tennessee Tech. SIUE has seen eleven different players score a goal on the season.

So far this season: WIU had a tough week last week, as both matches were played to 1-0 losses. The Leathernecks are looking to bounce back and pick up their first OVC win this week. Western tied in each of its first three OVC matches, and play a defensive style that's seen the 'Necks score one and concede three in five matches.

Players to watch: Junior Kayla Turner was recently named Leatherneck Insider Athlete of the Week, thanks to her goal against UT-Martin last week. Turner has been a mainstay of the bench for the Leathernecks, as she's tallied at least 30 minutes of play in every match since September 7.  Keeper Isabel Navas Rodriguez tallied 15 saves across last week's pair of matches.

What's next: Western will wrap up the OVC regular season next week, taking on Little Rock on Thursday and Lindenwood at home next Sunday.
