WIU Opens Summit League Play at Home

Last Week | Western Illinois wrapped up its non-conference schedule at the Green Bay Invitational. The Leathernecks took on Drake University and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. WIU dropped both matches in straight sets losing to Drake (9-25, 23-25, 21-25) and Green Bay (19-25, 11-25, 18-25). Brittany Wulf led the team with 20 kills over the two matches.

Back Home | For the first time in 306 days, WIU will be playing in Macomb. After playing their entire non-conference schedule on the road, Western Illinois will open its home schedule this week.

Serving Success | WIU will head into conference play leading the Summit League in service aces. Western Illinois has totaled 71 aces over 45 sets. Brittany Wulf and Grace Nichols rank in the top four for aces per set. Wulf leads the conference, with 26 aces averaging 0.63 aces per set, with Nichols in fourth, averaging 0.38 per set.

Scouting North Dakota | North Dakota comes in with a 3-8 record, most recently going 1-2 at the Green Bay Invitational. Ashlyn Olson leads the Fighting Hawks with 86 kills. She posted 45 kills this past weekend, having 17 kills against SIUE and Drake.

Scouting NDSU | NDSU will walk into conference play with a 7-5 record, previously going 1-2 at Stacheville Challenge. Syra Tanchin leads the Bison with 157 kills averaging 3.41 kills per set. She had a season-high 23 kills against Austin Peay this past weekend.

What's Next | WIU will hit the road for three conference matches stopping on Tuesday (Sept. 27) to take on Kansas City. They will then head to Omaha to battle the Mavericks on Thursday (Sept. 29). The final stop will be in Denver on Saturday (Oct. 1) for a tussle with the Pioneers.
