Last Week | Western Illinois traveled to Purdue Fort Wayne, where they dropped all three contests in the invitational. The Leathernecks battled in match one dropping it in four sets (25-23, 21-25, 23-25, 17-25) to Lindenwood. WIU took on Canisius in a five-set thriller in match two (17-25, 26-24, 21-25, 25-22, 7-15). The Griffins took three sets to two. Western dropped a four-set match (23-25, 26-24, 32-30, 26-24) to the host Purdue Fort Wayne.

New Faces | Western Illinois welcomes eight newcomers to the 2022 roster. Elizabeth Ziegler led the new faces this past weekend with 33 kills over the three matches, she averaged 2.54 kills per set. Ziegler also led the teams in blocks with 11. Grace Nichols also had a stellar opening weekend. The sophomore had 29 kills, six service aces, 20 digs, and eight blocks on the weekend.

Scouting Arkansas State | The Red Wolves went 2-1 in their opening weekend at the A-State invitational beating Mississippi Valley State and Arkansas Little Rock. Macey Putt leads Arkansas State with 52 kills on the season, averaging 4.73 kills per set.

Scouting UT Martin | UT Martin started their season of a Colonel Classic, going 2-1 on the opening weekend. The Skyhawks played a midweek match on Tuesday (Aug. 31) against Southern Illinois, dropping it in straight sets. Karen Scanlon leads the team in kills with 48, averaging 2.82 kills per set. Dylan Mott leads the team on the defensive side averaging 4.76 digs per set.

Scouting Alabama A&M | Alabama A&M started out their season at the FAU Invitational, dropping all three of their matches on the opening weekend. Caitlin Shaw and Bailey Duckett led the team in kills with 25. Duckett also led the team in service aces with three over the weekend.

What's Next | Western will take the trip to the east side of Illinois to battle the Panthers of Eastern Illinois in a midweek matchup on Sept. 6
