New Era | Dale Starr has been hired as the next head coach of Western Illinois volleyball; it was announced on Wednesday (Feb. 6). Starr comes to Western Illinois with over two decades of Division-I head coaching experience and 315 career victories. He was most recently the head coach at Robert Morris, where he guided the Colonials to 169 victories across 12 seasons, including a 25-5 season in 2019 that saw his team finish with a 15-1 conference record and regular-season championship. In 2015, Starr's Robert Morris team finished 19-13, earning a berth into the NCAA Tournament for the first time in over ten seasons.

New Faces | Western welcomes eight new faces to their 2022 team. Freshman Elizabeth Ziegler had a team-high ten kills in Western's exhibition matchup.

Returning Stars | After being named to the Summit League All-Freshman teams, Karli Wenzel and Brittany Wulf are back looking to have a strong Sophomore season. Wenzel led the team in digs (379) averaging 3.72 digs per set. Wulf led the way on the attacking side. She averaged 2.57 kills per set.

Scouting Lindenwood | Lindenwood jumps from Division II to Division I this year. Last season the Lions went 14-13 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Mackenzi Sifuentes led the offense last season, tallying 258 kills and averaging 2.5 kills per set. 

Scouting Canisius | Canisius finished with an 11-18 record last season. They were selected to finish fifth in the MAAC. Bree Long was named to the Preseason All-MAAC Team. Long starts her senior season with 1,360 digs which rank fifth in the history of the program.

Scouting Purdue Fort Wayne | Head Coach Steve Florio starts the 2022 season one win away from 100 career wins. The Mastodons went 8-23 last season. They will have to replace 2022 Horizon League Player of the Year Katie Crowe. They return Madelyn Wurster and Maggie Castleman, who were behind Crowe last season in kills.

What's Next | Western Illinois will travel down to UT-Martin for the Skyhawk invitational on Sept. 2-3.
