Leathernecks wrap up preseason.

MACOMB, Ill - Western Illinois Volleyball team hit the floor for the first time this season. The Leathernecks (0-0,0-0) fell to the Quincy Hawks (0-0,0-0) three sets to one in an exhibition match on Saturday (Aug. 20).

The first and second sets were a battle. Both teams would split the first two sets, with Quincy taking set one (25-17) and Western taking set two (25-22). The Leathernecks and Hawks would see the score be tied a combined 21 times and have seven lead changes between the two. The final two sets were handled by Quincy, as they opened up a lead and did not look back. They took sets, three (25-16) and four (25-15).

In a game that saw every Leatherneck in uniform touch foot on the court, it was the underclassman who shined. Elizabeth Ziegler and Brittany Wulf led the way in kills with ten each. Ziegler also added two blocks on the day. Senior Jessie Connell tallied 21 assists. Maggie Craker was right behind her with 15. The Leathernecks as a team had a serve percentage of .932 and had three service aces.

The Leathernecks will be back in action on Friday (Aug. 26) as they head to Purdue Fort Wayne for the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational. They will take on Lindenwood, Canisius, and Purdue Fort Wayne over the two-day tournament.
