Leatherneck Tennis Adds Another W

The Leathernecks earned a 6-1 home win over St. Francis.

Box Score GALESBURG, Ill. | The Western Illinois women's tennis team added another W to its record Friday (March 18) in a 6-1 win versus St. Francis.

"Great win today," said head coach Shawn Hyden. "I'm proud of the team. They came out and fought for this win."

The doubles point came easy to the Leathernecks by way of 6-3 (No. 1 Lorena Castellanos, Maria Rybka) and 6-2 (No. 3 Paige Grice, Agatha Carbonell) scores; the decision also marked the second win for the No. 1 duo, improving their record to 2-3 and making them the most successful partnership so far this season.

Castellanos required extra points (7-5,7-6) to put her singles opponent away in the No. 1 spot, and the match was the closest of the day. In fact, neither Grice nor Rybka, in the fourth and sixth spots, respectively, allowed a single point in their second sets.

Hyden is one shy of claiming his 100th career win. The Leathernecks' third-year leader was previously the head coach at Earlham College and Acadia University.

Western returns to Summit League action in a Saturday afternoon match against North Dakota. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
