Leathernecks Fall at No. 10 Denver

Ryan DeBois and Adam Miller both scored, WIU men’s soccer finishes the 2022 season at fifth place in the Summit League.

DENVER, Colo. – Western Illinois men's soccer played on Saturday (Nov. 5), falling 4-2 on the road against the Denver Pioneers. With the result, the Leathernecks' 2022 fall season has officially concluded with a fifth-place finish in the Summit League standings.
 
Ronaldo Joseph earned his first start since the opening matchup of the season and was joined by regulars like Jack Immesoete and Caleb Ragland as both teams came out of the gate rolling. Denver opened things up with a 15th minute goal but the Leathernecks quickly responded, as Ryan DeBois got leveled things up in the 23rd minute. For DeBois, it was his first goal of the season and first since scoring in a 1-0 victory over Oral Roberts on March 20, 2021.

Denver regained the lead in the 26th, but Western responded once more. After entering the game in the 31st minute for Muazu Sagir, it was Adam Miller who leveled things in the 35th minute. Saturday's goal was the first of Miller's collegiate career while he tied a season-high for minutes played with 31. At the halftime break, the game was tied, 2-2.
 
Denver took control in the second half and didn't allow WIU to get a shot off, scoring in the 58th and 86th minutes to seal a 4-2 victory.
 
Western finished the game with six shots (two on goal), taking five corner kicks while drawing 10 Pioneer fouls. 14 total Leathernecks featured in the game, with seven going the full 90 minutes. Tajh Hylton played 70 minutes off the WIU bench as Sofian Maghouz recorded his second assist of the season on DeBois' goal.
 
With the loss, Western Illinois has officially concluded its 2022 fall season, placing fifth in the Summit League.
