WIU Heads to St. Thomas for Final Road Trip

Last Week | Western Illinois traveled to the state of South Dakota last week to battle both South Dakota and South Dakota State. In a battle with USD on Thursday (Nov. 3), WIU fell in straight sets 15-25, 11-25, and 16-25. The Leathernecks would then face the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State, dropping the matchup 3-0. Brittany Wulf had 23 kills between the two games. Karli Wenzel had 28 digs, including 16 against SDSU.

Ahead of the Pack | Karli Wenzel leads Western Illinois defense with 382 digs this season. Wenzel is averaging 4.55 digs per set, which is good enough for second place in the Summit League. Brittany Wulf has also been dominant this fall. From the service line, Wulf has 36 aces averaging 0.42 aces per set, which put her in third place in the Summit League.

WIU Leaders | Brittany Wulf leads the WIU offense with 269 kills. Freshman Elizabeth Ziegler and Senior Aubrey Putman are right behind her with 198 and 175. Karli Wenzel leads the team with 382 digs, and Putman is second with 235. Julianna Schmidt leads WIU with 56 blocks, including ten solo blocks. WIU, as a team, has had 109 service aces on the season.

Scouting St. Thomas | St. Thomas sits right above WIU in the standings with a 1-14 conference record. Lauren Galvin leads the team with 303 kills averaging 3.19 kills per set. Galvin had 22 kills this past weekend against USD and SDSU. The Tommies have hit at a .148 mark this season.
