Western Loses to Fort Wayne

Men’s soccer played their second game of the weekend on Sunday (Sept. 5), losing 2-0.

The Western Illinois men's soccer team was in action on Sunday (Sept. 5), losing 2-0 to the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons at John MacKenzie Alumni Field.
 
The Mastodons wasted no time, scoring twice in the game's first 14 minutes to take a commanding lead on goals by Alejandro Lopez and Ali Nasser. Neither team would score in the remaining 76 minutes of gameplay and it finished 2-0.
 
A total of 18 players suited up for the Leathernecks, with Kyle Owen, Cameron Territo, Daisuke Otsuka and Alex Flowers playing the full 90 minutes. Luke Duball led the team in shots on goal with two, and six members of the team finished with multiple shots.
 
As a whole, the Leathernecks had 16 shots (six on goal) which led to six corner kicks, and the team committed 17 fouls. The Leatherneck attack forced six saves out of the opposing goalkeeper, and Alex Flowers set a career high with six saves of his own.
 
Up next for men's soccer is a matchup with Loyola Chicago, set to take place on Friday (Sept. 11). Kickoff is scheduled 7 p.m. at Loyola Soccer Park.
