INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Western Illinois volleyball went back into tournament play on Friday (Sept. 3), stepping into day one of the Hampton Inn Invitational, hosted by Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). Only one match against Toledo University made up the day, as the Rockets won in a sweep (15-25, 18-25, 8-25).

A service by Maggie Craker opened set one, as Western scored three straight times. Toledo jumped into the scoring column with a kill before the two teams began going back and forth. Emma Norris played as a valuable piece during the stretch, as the senior landed four kills. A slew of errors on both ends happened throughout the first period, while Toledo plugged in two 5-0 runs on its way to a 25-15 win.

The Rockets went up 4-0 in the second set, while WIU found a way back in it, down 10-9. Another run by Toledo boosted its lead to 17-10. Erika Moore's service ace capped off an 18-16 run by the Leathernecks. Toledo was able to finish things off, however, 25-18.

Kennedy Davis led the WIU offense in the third set, but Toledo successfully controlled the tempo en route to a 25-8 victory. 

Davis had six kills, while Norris added five. Craker chipped in 10 assists, and Moore added 11 digs. Norris and Aubrey Putman contributed five digs.

WIU takes on IUPUI and Chattanooga tomorrow (Sept. 4) at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. CT, respectively.
