Leathernecks Wrap Non-Conference Schedule

Summit League action begins Thursday (Sept. 23) in an 8 p.m. tilt at Denver.

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The Western Illinois volleyball team concluded its non-conference calendar Saturday (Sept. 18) in a 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-21) road setback to SIUE. Maggie Craker had a hand in 16 of the Leathernecks' 22 kills while Erika Moore registered her sixth game of the season with 10 or more digs.  
 
The Leathernecks were off to a good start in the opening set, managing an early 3-1 lead, but were unable to carry that momentum forward. Each time the visitors threatened, SIUE responded with a sizeable rally - 6-1 in the first set and 7-0 in the second. But, the third frame operated quite differently from the others, as this time, Western worked together to compile 13-3 run of its own. Craker registered a pair of service aces during the stretch and it ended with the Leathernecks trailing by two, 22-20.
 
Peyton Bowman finished the match with nine points (five kills and seven total blocks). Moore recorded 12 digs and Craker 10.
