Leatherneck Men’s Soccer Loses Season Opener

The team heads to Des Moines for a matchup with Drake on Monday.

Box Score The Western Illinois University men's soccer team played on Thursday (Aug. 26), losing 2-0 to the Central Methodist University Eagles in Fayette, Mo.
 
An own goal by Western gave the Eagles a lead in the 33rd minute before the game was delayed due to lightning. After nearly two hours of delays, the game was resumed and the first half could be completed. When the first 45 minutes were completed, Central Methodist held a one goal lead.
 
CMU scored in the 59th minute and the game went scoreless the rest of the way. The Leathernecks finished with three shots (one on goal), five corners attempted and seven fouls committed. Goalkeeper Seanan Main saved two of the four shots on goal that he faced.
 
The season continues for WIU men's soccer with another road game on Monday (Aug. 30) at Drake. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines, Iowa.
