TULSA, Okla. - Fans inside J.L. Johnson Stadium were in for a treat Sunday (May 9) as they watched starting pitchers Evan Kowalski and Chandler Fochs have their way with on the mound. The former struck out five of the first seven batters faced to start the game while the latter retired seven straight.
Despite Fochs' best efforts for the Western Illinois baseball team, which ended in him yielding a season-low four hits, Oral Roberts picked up the win in a 10-0, seven-inning decision.
The Golden Eagles were the first to push a run across -- doing so on an RBI-single in the fourth; they doubled their advantage to 2-0 in the following inning, and it was the last run Fochs permitted. His appearance finished in 5.1 innings, where he surrendered just four hits while fanning two. For ORU, Kowalski tossed six complete innings and allowed four hits en route to a season-high eight strikeouts.
Oral Roberts plated runs in four straight innings, including a grand slam in the seventh.
The Leathernecks will have a week off before closing out the regular season at home with Omaha (May 20 - 22).
