First Serve | For the first time since March 20, the Western Illinois women's tennis team returns home for a Summit League matchup against the Omaha Mavericks on Sunday (April 11).

Last Time Out | The Leathernecks fell to Oral Roberts last Saturday (April 3), 7-0 for their third Summit League loss.

Aina Cortina-Pou (No. 2) found a spark on the afternoon, leaving it all out on the court. The Blanes, Spain native, was edged out 7-5 in set number one but got her revenge in the second set, taking the frame 7-6 (7), forcing a third set for the first time this season. Both Cortina-Pou and her opponent, Aleksandra Lebedeva, duked it out in the decisive set, with the latter edging out the former 11-9.

In singles, Mara Vidal (No.6), Lorena Castellanos (No.1), and Maria Rybka (No.5) were defeated in straight sets, giving Oral Roberts a 4-0 lead and clinching the Summit League contest. Lucky Kancherla (No. 4) and Agatha Carbonell (No. 3) each battled in their matchups but couldn't secure a set. Kancherla dropped her second set 6-4. Carbonell couldn't edge out her opponent, losing her first set 7-5 before dropping the second set at No. 3 as well.

Double Trouble | The duo of Aina Cortina-Pou and Lucky Kancherla were able to run away with a 6-2 win on March 9 in the No. 2 spot against Bradley. The win marked the second doubles victory of the season for the pair, leading the Leathernecks in that category.

Plenty of Firsts | The Leathernecks 7-0 victory over St. Francis (Ill.) on Valentine's Day marked the first win of the season for Western and firsts for a few team members. The match was the first win for head coach Shawn Hyden at WIU, and it featured the first career wins for Lorena Castellanos, Aina Cortina-Pou, Agatha Carbonell, and Maria Rybka.

Scouting the Mavericks | Similar to the Leathernecks, Omaha is still searching for their first Summit League win of the season. The Mavericks currently hold a four-game losing streak, dating back to the opening of League play when they fell 7-0 to Oral Roberts on March 27. More recently, the team dropped a matchup against the Coyotes of South Dakota on Wednesday (April 7), 4-3. The duo of Natalie Lorentz and Ines Absisan earned the team's first doubles victory of conference play with a 6-3 victory on Wednesday. Madison Gallegos (No.1) and Colby Kelly (No. 4) became the first Mavericks to win a singles matchup in Summit League play 6-7 (7), 6-4, 6-3, and 7-6 (7), 7-5, respectively.

Up Next | Western Illinois remains at home with a weekday matchup against Eastern Illinois on Tuesday (April 13) at 1 p.m.
