Leathernecks Gear Up for Season Finale

WIU hosts its regular-season finale this weekend vs. South Dakota State.

Kickoff | After six straight games on the road, the Western Illinois women's soccer team gears up for the regular-season finale at home against South Dakota State. 

Break out the Brooms | WIU took all six points in a weekend sweep of Oral Roberts. Amy Andrews scored back-to-back goals and Jenna Lundgren earned two assists on the trip. 

Senior Standout | Senior Megan Rasmussen has earned the starting spot between the pipes for the Leathernecks midway through the season and has shined. She earned her career weekly honor with being named Summit League Defensive Player of the Week and has totaled 35 saves in her last eight starts. On the offensive side of the ball, Jenna Lundgren has notched four assists in the last six games as she is tied for fifth in the Summit. 

Two Cups of Tea | Amy Andrews scored her second career multi-goal game in the series opener at South Dakota and added two more at ORU and leads the team with six and 12 points. The forward scored two goals in a three-minute span in game one at Omaha and has totaled six goals in the last six games, which is tied for the third in The Summit League. 

The Attack | Five Necks have fired double-digit shots this season - Andrews (25), Lundgren (21), Natalie Nagle (19),  Zoe Clarke (16), and Bridget Schuler (11). 

A List of First | The 2021 season has marked a collection of career firsts. Nagle scored her first career goal vs. KC for the first WIU goal of the season.  Emma Brinkmann, Angie Knies, Ella Kiely, Maddie Hasken, Isabel Navas Rodriguez, Megan Rasmussen, Bailey Burlingham, and Audrey Narine have all made their first career starts.

Scouting the Opponent | SDSU is undefeated in Summit League play this season with four ties vs. Omaha, South Dakota, and Denver… the Jacks are coming off back-to-back sweeps of North Dakota and North Dakota State… Maya Hanesn leads the attack with seven goals and two other players have scored four… the opposition owns the all-time series 13-1-1
