Leathernecks Return to Hanson Field Saturday

Western Illinois will play host to No. 3 North Dakota Saturday, March 13, at 12:05 p.m.

Gameday Protocol | After thorough discussion and consultation with university leaders, Western Illinois Athletics made the decision to decrease seating at all outdoor events this spring. Student-athletes will be permitted to have only their families in attendance, admitted via the player pass list. 
 
Gates open 45 minutes before kick-off, and a temperature check will be required for entry into Hanson Field. Fans are also asked to socially distance themselves and wear a mask at all times.

The Last Game | Western Illinois played its first ranked opponent of the season in No. 8 South Dakota State and fell by a score of 45-10. 

- Dallas Daniels scored his first touchdown in a WIU uniform. He set up the play with a 62-yard catch, the longest reception of the season, and finished the game with 111 receiving yards to become the first Leatherneck to put up 100-plus this season. 

- Mason Laramie sent a 26-yard field goal through the uprights for Western's first points of the afternoon; he is 2-for-2 in FGs this year. 

- Greg Benton Jr. and Justin Nutof each recorded nine tackles (five solo); Nutof added a forced fumble. 

Versus the Ranked | Western Illinois is 45-87-1 all-time against ranked opponents, with a 30-67 mark in conference play. Its last ranked win occurred in a 37-17 decision over No. 17/23 Northern Iowa in 2018.  

Western is coming off of a 45-10 loss to No. 8 South Dakota State, and five of its next six opponents were ranked in the latest STATS Top 25 poll.

Catch Up | The Leathernecks hold three of the top four spots in the MVFC in receptions per game. Dennis Houston leads the Valley and ranks fourth in the nation, with nine catches, and is followed by teammates Tony Tate and Dallas Daniels

The rankings should come as no surprise, as Connor Sampson is averaging 31.5 completions per (second in the NCAA) and 279.5 passing yards (eighth in the NCAA).

Breakout Defender | Herschel Blankenship is having a breakout season for the Leathernecks. In two games, the third-year sophomore has already surpassed the number of solo tackles posted in his first two seasons combined. 

He currently leads Western's defense with 19 total tackles, 17 unassisted, and the overall mark ranks third in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.
