Omaha Downs Western in Series Closer

Luke Duball scored his first season goal on Saturday.

OMAHA - Saturday afternoon saw Western Illinois men's soccer (0-5-1, 0-4-1) resume its Summit League series against the Omaha Mavericks (3-1-0, 2-1-0). Similar to the last go-around, both teams battled it out, but the hosts took the victory: 4-1.

Omaha struck first from outside the box after 24 minutes of action. WIU senior Luke Duball made a stellar play from the left side to even the score, 1-1, in the 36th minute. This goal was a season first for the senior and occurred on the Leathernecks' second shot. However, moments before halftime arrived, the Mavericks went ahead once again on the scoreboard.

Around the 52nd minute, Omaha added another goal and then upped its lead to 4-1 on a penalty kick six minutes later. The score remained unchanged for the final rally, as Kyle Owen's team-high three shots all happened for WIU in the last thirty minutes.

Outside of Duball and Owen, Wail Algahim came off the bench to add a shot. In his first league start, Alex Flowers recorded four saves at goalkeeper. Omaha outshot the Leathernecks 20-5.

WIU returns to play on March 18, hosting Oral Roberts in a home opener.
