Upperclassmen Shine in NDSU Setback

Peyton Bowman, Emma Norris, and Aubrey Putman each recorded 10-plus kills.

FARGO, N.D. - The Western Illinois volleyball team met North Dakota State inside the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse Saturday (Oct. 30), where the morning matinee, a 3-1 Leatherneck loss, captured several high performances for the visiting team. Peyton Bowman (13) and Emma Norris (10) each contributed 10-plus kills, while Aubrey Putman added her fourth double-double of the season (the second in as many games) on a team-best 15 digs with 11 kills.

The Leathernecks claimed the first set, 25-20, before falling 25-19, 25-22, and 25-14. The opener was quite contentious in the early goings, but after working a 6-5 lead, Western maintained its edge thereon. There were several instances where the Bison crept within one -- the final occurred at 18-17, and a 3-0 run provided WIU breathing room. Norris helped her team to set point on back-to-back service aces and recorded her final SA during a 7-3 Leatherneck run in the second set. The latter pulled Western within striking distance at 20-17, and the point difference was even closer in the third set at 23-22. Unfortunately, the Leathernecks were unable to regain their advantage in either situation.

The Leathernecks return to Western Hall Thursday for a 7 p.m. match against South Dakota.
