Men's Soccer Readies for Senior Day

Against EIU on Saturday, the Leathernecks will play their final regular season home game.

Matchup history: The Leathernecks have beaten EIU 18 times in program history, and they last played on April 17, 2021. The Panthers won that game 2-1, with Daisuke Otsuka scoring the lone goal for Western Illinois.

Players to watch: In his third season for the Leathernecks, Daisuke Otsuka has been a consistent force in the center of the pitch. Currently second on the team in minutes played (1,144), he has played in 14 games with 13 starts and recorded both a goal and an assist.
  
Playing his fifth and final season at Western, Luke Duball has made 11 appearances (10 starts) this season. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa, native scored a game-tying goal for the Leathernecks against St. Thomas on Oct. 16 – a matchup which the Leathernecks would go on and win 2-1.

Scouting the opponent: Eastern Illiinois is currently 2-10-1 (1-3) and coming off a 2-0 loss against the Belmont Bruins. Davi Girardi leads the team in scoring with two goals and an assist, and Jonathan Burke has made 42 saves across ten appearances in net.

Summit League Play: WIU has played four matches in conference play thus far. There will be one more Summit League games after Saturday's match; next weekend on the road at Omaha. At the conclusion of this season, the Summit League's Men's Soccer Championship will be played in Macomb, with games scheduled for Nov. 11 and 13. More information will be made available at a later date.

What's next: The Leathernecks will face Omaha in their season finale next weekend. Kickoff at Caniglia field is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 6).
