Jeter Adds Experience in First Recruiting Class

Rob Jeter will welcome six to his 2020-21 roster.

MACOMB, Ill. – "It's time to roll up our sleeves and get to work!" Rob Jeter made that statement in his welcoming press conference, and within a few weeks, the newly-hired head coach increased his 2020-21 roster by six. 

Adam Anhold, Justin Brookens, Cameron Burrell, JJ Flores, Rod Johnson, and Braden Lamar are officially Leathernecks as members of the Western Illinois men's basketball team, Jeter announced Friday (April 17). 

"I'm really excited about this first group of student-athletes," said Jeter. "We had to completely rebuild the roster. Not one starter returns, and with that in mind, it was critical that we brought in talent and experience. I feel really good about the character and toughness of this group."

The recruiting class includes five transfers and a true-freshman.

Adam Anhold | 6-8 | Junior Forward | Janesville, Wis. | Janesville High School (Highland Community College)

HIGHLAND CC (2019-20): Region IV All-Tournament Team … appeared in all 34 games with 27 starts … averaged 11.7 points and 5.4 rebounds … scored 15-plus in eight games, including a season-high 24 at Malcolm X … recorded six double-doubles

HIGH SCHOOL: Two-sport athlete at Janesville (basketball, cross country) … averaged 14 points and eight rebounds as a senior … led the Cougars in rebounds and was voted team MVP... named second team all-conference (Big 8 Conference) as a senior, and third team all-conference as a junior

Justin Brookens | 5-10 | Junior Guard | Milwaukee, Wis. | Milwaukee Vincent High School (Iowa Lakes CC)

IOWA LAKES (2019-20): First Team All-America … Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Year … three-time conference player of the week … recorded 20.1 PPG on a 48.8 percent effort from the floor … shot 51.7 from 3-point range (second in the nation) … scored 30-plus in three games including a season-high 35 vs. Ellsworth 

BRYANT AND STRATTON COLLEGE (2018-19): Second Team All-Region IV … started 32 games … averaged 21.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.4 assists 

Cameron Burrell | 6-7 | Junior Forward | Chicago, Ill. | Morgan Park High School (Highland CC)

HIGHLAND CC (2019-20): First All-Region IV … All-America consideration … averaged a team-best 9.0 rebounds per game …  recorded 11 double-doubles … posted a season-high 26 points vs. Moberly Area … pulled down 15 or more rebounds in three games ... added 40 blocks  

HIGH SCHOOL: First Team All-State … won back-to-back Illinois Class 3A State Championships … averaged 17.7 points and 13.1 rebounds as a senior … recorded 29 double-doubles in 34 games 

JJ Flores | 6-3 | Junior Guard | Lake in the Hills, Ill. | Miami Christian High School (Highland CC) 

HIGHLAND (2019-20): All-Region IV Tournament Team … appeared in 28 games … recorded 9.0 PPG, 3.1 RPG, 2.1 APG … finished third on the team in field goal percentage (55.2) and free-throws made (60) 

HIGH SCHOOL: Accolades include: all-state, all-county, all-conference, All-Miami Dade … won a Florida State championship title in 2018

Rod Johnson | 6-7 |Redshirt-Senior Forward | Sun Prairie, Wis. | Sun Prairie (Chattanooga)

CHATTANOOGA (2018-20): Transferred to UT-Chattanooga ahead of the 2018-19 season … finished year two with 198 points, 138 rebounds, and 11 blocks … received a medical redshirt during the 2018-19 season 

HIGH SCHOOL: All-Big Eight Second Team … Wisconsin State Journal/Wisconsin PrepZone.com honorable mention (2016) … helped Sun Prairie to a share of the 2016 Big Eight regular season title … averaged 12.3 points as a senior, shooting 39 percent from 3-point range … hit the game-winning shot to defeat Janesville Craig in the regional finals

Braden Lamar | 6-5 | Freshman | Las Vegas, Nev. | Bishop Gorman 

HIGH SCHOOL: First Team All-City … helped Bishop Gorman to four state championship titles … aided team to a Geico National Tournament run ... elected varsity team captain … played AAU in the ADIDAS Gold Gauntlet ... participated in the All-Star Game/Dunk Contest
