Leatherneck Tennis Drops Showdown at ISU

Redbirds take rivalry match 6-1 on Saturday (Feb. 8).

NORMAL, Ill. - The Western Illinois women's tennis team (0-7) fell to rival Illinois State (3-2) 6-1 on Saturday (Feb. 8) afternoon.
 
In doubles, Grace Stevens and Nikhita Simhambhatla fell 6-1 at No. 2, and the Redbirds clinched the point with a default win at No. 3. 
 
ISU increased its lead after two default victories in singles, and Western made it 3-1 with Lucky Kancherla's win in No. 3 after her opponent retired. The Leathernecks fell in straight sets in the reaming singles. Laura Ballesteros fell 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1, Simhambhatla 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3, and Stevens 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4

Western Illinois continues in-state battles with SIUE on Wednesday (Feb. 12).
