Shorthanded Leathernecks Drop Contest at SIUE

Western Illinois dropped a 7-0 contest on Wednesday (Feb. 12) afternoon.

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The Western Illinois tennis team (0-8) was shorthanded in a 7-0 loss to SIUE (5-1) on Wednesday (Feb. 12) afternoon. 

The Leathernecks had only freshmen Lucky Kancherla and Nikhita Simhambhatla healthy for the in-state rivalry. Due to the empty spots, the Cougars won the doubles point and four singles matches by default. 

Despite the match clinched, both sides played out the singles matches and doubles match. Kancherla (No. 1) and Simhambhatla (No. 2) both fell in two straight sets and the duo was topped 6-1. 

Western Illinois now has 10 days off before weekend action against Bradley and Northern Illinois on Saturday (Feb. 22) and the host of Creighton on Sunday (Feb. 23) in Galesburg, Ill.
