Leathernecks Ride Three-Game Win Streak Into Road Weekend

Home Sweep | The Western Illinois women's basketball team completed a three-game homestand against Oral Roberts (75-61) on Saturday (Jan. 18)  after recording prior victories over Purdue Fort Wayne (79-68) and Denver (82-75).

Last Time Out | The Leathernecks broke out the brooms for the third straight league dub inside Western Hall after a 75-61 defeat of Oral Roberts (8-11, 3-3) Saturday (Jan. 18).

Down by 25 to start the fourth quarter, the Golden Eagles clawed back and made it an eight-point game (67-59) entering the media timeout, but the Leathernecks converted at the free-throw line to hold on. 

Double Trouble | Recnelty both Olivia Kaufmann and Evan Zars have been double-double machines for the Leathernecks. Zars recorded three straight double-doubles during the homestand sweep and four in the last five games to place second in the Summit with seven. Kaufammn has notched four total with three in the last five outings.

The duo is also averaging double-figures in scoring in Summit League play - Kaufmann (17.5) & Zars (10.3). 

Player of the Week | On the back of her acceptance to the 1,000 point club and back-to-back double-double performances, Olivia Kaufmann was named Summit League Player of the Week, the league offices announced Monday (Jan. 13). The award was Kaufmann's first, as well as the first for Western Illinois.

Scouting the Mavericks | Omaha hosts the Leathernecks trying to snap a three-game losing streak with a 1-4 record in Summit League play. The Mavericks welcomed seven new players to the program this season.

Rayanna Carter is the lone senior on the squad this season and is the team's returning leading scorer after she averaged 9.4 points per game to go with 2.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game in the 2018-19 campaign. 

Series History vs. North Dakota | The Fighting Hawks and Leathernecks have only squared off four times on the hardwood with the series tied 2-2.

Scouting the Fighting Hawks | Similar to the Mavs, UND also is looking to end a three-game losing streak. Olivia Lane leads The Summit League in field goal percentage (67.2) as the Fighting Hawks host Denver before Western Illinois enters Grand Forks. 

Both sides are one of the top teams in the nation in free-throws made. North Dakota has sunk 276 while Western trails by one with 275.
