Leathernecks Conclude Opening Weekend

Western Illinois was edged 7-0 by Western Kentucky on Sunday (Jan. 19).

Box Score INDIANAPOLIS- The Western Illinois women's tennis team (0-2) concluded the opening weekend of the spring season in a 7-0 loss to Western Kentucky (2-0) on Sunday (Jan. 19).

After a big win (4-3) over Butler on Saturday (Jan. 18), WKU began the match by taking the doubles point after a 6-0 win in No. 2 doubles and a default victory in the No. 3 spot.

In singles play, senior Laura Ballesteros led the battle for the Leathernecks. In the No. 1 spot she was just outlasted 6-4, 7-5 by her matchup. Western Kentucky then secured the rest of singles matches in two straight sets.

Western Illinois heads to Southeastern Conference (SEC) foe Missouri on Saturday (Jan. 25) for two matches against the Tigers to begin their season.
