Tennis Falls in Season Opener at Butler

Western dropped 7-0 to the Bulldogs in the season opener on Saturday (Jan. 18)

Box Score INDIANAPOLIS - The Western Illinois women's tennis team (0-1) fell in the season opener to Butler (1-1) on Saturday (Jan. 18). 

The Bulldogs jumped out first and took the doubles point after winning No. 3 doubles by default and 6-2 victory in No. 1. 
 
Butler carried the momentum to sweep singles play. Laura Ballesteros fell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 and Nikhita Simhambhatla dropped 7-5, 6-2 in the No. 2 spot while Lucky Kancherla (No. 3) lost 6-1, 6-2. Rounding out singles action Mara Vidal (No. 4) and Grace Stevens (No. 5) each were edged in two straight sets. 
 
Western Illinois takes on Western Kentucky Sunday (Jan. 19) with first serve at 10 a.m.
