Tennis Wraps Up Panther Fall Classic

The fall season ends at the Cougar Invite on Oct. 11-12.

CHARLESTON, Ill. - The Western Illinois tennis team wrapped up the second final test of the fall campaign at the Panther Fall Classic on Saturday (Sept. 21).

"Today was another solid day on the courts," head coach Shawn Hyden said. "We keep improving each match."

In singles play, only two Leathernecks were in action. Nikhita Simhambhatla kept the momentum from yesterday and won her second singles match of the tournament 6-1, 6-1. Grace Stevens also battled and lost 6-1, 6-0.

Senior Laura Ballesteros and freshman Lucky Kancherla teamed up in doubles play. The duo recovered after a 6-2 and 6-4 loss to win 6-4 in their final match of the day. So far this fall the pair have won three games together. Stevens and Simhambhatla concluded doubles with a 6-4 setback.

The Purple and Gold take a break from action before the fall finale at SIUE for the Cougar Invite on Oct. 11-12.
