Kick-Off | The Western Illinois men's soccer team hosts the Drake Bulldogs for a Tuesday (Sept. 16) tilt at 5 p.m.

Last Time Out |WIU hosted Big 10 opponent Northwestern on Thursday (Sept. 12) and just ran out of time in a 3-2 loss against the Wildcats.

In the final seconds of the match, Western earned a free kick off a Northwestern yellow card.
Caleb Ragland sent the ball into the box, but no Leatherneck could find a head on it as the clock struck zero.

The Big 10 foe earned the game-winning goal after a successful penalty kick from Garrett Opperman in the 86th minute.

WIU erased Northwestern's early lead on two unassisted goals. Less than a minute later after their second goal,
Enric Ferrer secured the ball of a failed clearance in the middle of the box and buried it into the left side to make it 2-1 at the 10-minute mark.

Midway through the first half, Mitchell Moynihan ('22) tied the game as he scored his team-leading second goal of the season. Both of Western's shots on goal found the back of the net in the first half.

The Wildcats owned a 2-0 advantage through the first two minutes as goals came in the 1st and 9th minute of the match.

National Attention | To say Tim Trilk is a wall between the pipes is an understatement. The senior as of Monday (Sept. 16) is second in Division I with 32 saves. A week prior, he was tied for first. Including setting a career-high 13 at UIC which tied Chris Frenz (Oct. 25, 2002 vs. IUPUI) for third in saves in a game. He is tied for eighth all-time in shutouts (7) and eighth all-time for minutes in goal (3236:24) in program history. Trilk is now 11 saves and three wins away from becoming tenth all-time in program history for both categories.

Start Wearing Purple and Gold | So far into the 2019 campaign WIU has totaled six goals with half of them coming from newcomers. Daniel McIntosh, Daisuke Otsuka and Enric Ferrer have all found the back of the net for the first time as a Leatherneck. Another new face to the team is Caleb Ragland, who leads the team with two assists.

All Eyes On 5 | Heading into his junior season Paul Kirdorf was tabbed a Player to Watch for the 2019 season. The midfielder is one of five key returners for the Leathernecks this season as he finished with a team-high in points (7) and assists (3) while starting all 14 matches. He also helped the Leatherneck defense record four shutouts during the 2018 campaign en route to being the team leader in shots on goal (10).

Scouting the Bulldogs | Drake enters the contest with a 2-3 record and wins over Kansas City and UNLV. The Bulldogs were picked to finish third in the MVC Preseason Poll before the start of the 2019 campaign with Jared Brown, Leroy Enzuguisi and Cole Poppen named to the preseason all-conference team. They bring back seven starters and welcome seven Division I transfers.

Up Next | The Purple and Gold make a quick trip to Kansas City on Saturday (Sept. 21) to battle the Roos for a 2 p.m. kick-off.
