Denise Cremer to Lead Cheerleading Program, Tryout Dates Announced

The 2008 Western Illinois alumna takes over the reins of the program and tryouts will run Aug. 26-28

Denise Cremer has been named the next head cheerleading coach at Western Illinois University, Director of Athletics Danielle Surprenant announced on Wednesday (Aug. 14).

Cremer is a police officer for the City of Macomb Police Department, where she has worked since graduating from Western Illinois in 2008. She comes to WIU Athletics after serving as the head cheerleading coach at Macomb high school the past five years.

Tryouts for the 2019-2020 cheerleading team will be held from Aug. 26 – Aug. 28, from 6-8 p.m., at the Brophy Hall gym. An informational meeting will be held, Monday, Aug. 19, at 6:30 p.m., in the Hall of Fame room, located inside Western Hall.

Tryout requirements include, proof of full-time enrollment at WIU, a physical from the past six months, proof of insurance, and a 2.0 cumulative GPA. All participants must sign a waiver before participating and pay the $25 tryout fee.
