Leatherneck WBB Guides Nation in GPA

The Leathernecks’ 3.767 GPA finished first among NCAA Division I members.

ATLANTA – With a 3.767 grade point average, Western Illinois sat atop all Division I women's basketball programs on the WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association) Academic Team Honor Roll, announced Tuesday (July 23).

"Of everything we've accomplished as a program, I'd say this is one of our more impressive feats," said head coach JD Gravina. "Having the top GPA out of 300+ DI schools is a testament to the hard work and intelligence of these student-athletes. It is also a reflection of the team culture that has been developed over the past five to six years."

The 2018-19 season featured several academic highlights for the Leathernecks, including their highest term GPA in program history. The team wrapped the spring semester with a 3.807 as six student-athletes boasted a perfect 4.0, 11 finished with a 3.6 or higher, and 13 with a 3.0 or higher.

The Summit League recently announced its Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence where Grace Gilmore,  Annabel Graettinger, Taylor Higginbotham, Olivia Kaufmann, and Danni Nichols were all recognized.

The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2018-19 season is the 24th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.
