Leathernecks Collect AVCA Team Academic Award

The volleyball program capped the 2018-19 season with a 3.352 cumulative GPA.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – A record-setting 1,126 teams garnered the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Academic Award for the 2018 season, and Western Illinois was one of them. 

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

The Leathernecks wrapped the previous year with a combined 3.352 GPA, and seven student-athletes received Summit League recognition with a spot on the honor roll. 

The AVCA award marked Western's eighth all-time and its first since the 2016 season.
