Western Drops Matchup Against Nationally-Ranked Georgia

The No. 8 team in the nation won the UGA Classic finale, 9-0

ATHENS, Ga. – Western Illinois softball wrapped its appearance at the UGA Classic Monday (March 11) in a 9-0 setback against No. 8 Georgia. 

UGA struck early with five runs in the very first inning -- four of which were scored on a two-out grand slam by Savana Sikes – and it extended the advantage to 8-0 in the second. 

The game ended in a five-inning, no-hitter for the Bulldogs as Payton Abbott and Alyssa Ealy were Western's lone baserunners on a pair of walks. 

The Leathernecks finished the tournament 2-3 after 8-0 and 4-3 victories over Bowling Green. Their spring break travels continue in a Wednesday doubleheader at Bethune-Cookman. 

Game one is scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
