Milwaukee Pulls Away from Leathernecks

Emily Bollman scored her second goal of the season in the 3-1 loss.

BETTENDORF, Iowa. — The Western Illinois women's soccer team (1-4-0) went into the half tied 1-1 but allowed a pair of second half goals in a 3-1 loss to the Milwaukee Panthers on Friday (Sept. 7). The match was moved from Macomb to the TBK Bank Sports Complex in Bettendorf, Iowa and was played indoors.

Emily Bollman fired a shot on goal in the 10th minute that was corralled by the Milwaukee goalkeeper. The Panthers kicked off the scoring in the 19th minute off a corner kick by Erin Corrigan to Haley Johnson for the header goal into the back left corner. The Leathernecks answered a minute later when Bollman dribbled the ball into the box and scored the equalizer into the back left corner of the net. It was the first goal allowed by the Panthers in the 2018 season.

The game remained tied 1-1 until the 60th minute on another well-placed corner kick by Corrigan, this time to Jelena Sever to head the ball into the left corner for a 2-1 lead. Milwaukee pushed the margin to two goals on a long pass by Gaby Schwartz from the left side to Sever, who scored with her left foot.

The Leathernecks were limited to four total shots and were outshot on goal by a 12-3 margin.

Western Illinois returns to the pitch in a home match against Ball State at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9.
