Leathernecks Fall in Home-Opener

Western Illinois will continue its four-match homestand Friday, Aug. 31.

MACOMB, Ill. – The Western Illinois women's soccer team (1-2) played host to Missouri – Kansas City (3-1) in its home-opener Sunday (Aug. 26) where it dropped the decision, 4-0. 

The Kangaroos scored twice in each half with their first goal occurring in the 10th minute. For the Leathernecks, four of their shots traveled on frame and Lauryn Peters was the first to strike with an attempt at the 14:57-mark. 

Continuing in its four-match homestand, Western returns to action Friday, Aug. 31, in a 5 p.m. match against Louisiana Tech. 

Ines Palmiero Herrera notched a season-high eight saves in the Leathernecks' home-opener, and the junior from Viladecavalls, Spain, currently manages 17 on the season to tie for third in the Summit League. 

UMKC's Kelsey Mothershead finished the afternoon with two goals after scoring the second (17:52) and final (51:46) of the match.
