Leathernecks Fall to Illinois State 1-4

Western is in back in action tomorrow against St. Ambrose

NORMAL, Ill –The Western Illinois women's tennis fell to in state rival Illinois State 1-4 on Saturday night.

"Very tight match in which we had a chance to win another three singles matches on top of the one we had already won, said head coach Mirko Bjelica. "The important thing though is that we are performing better each match and that our girls are seeing the results coming."

The Redbirds took the lead by winning two of the three double matches. Courtney Lubbers and Natalia Bravo fell in the No. 1 doubles 6-2. Senior Cary Milanes and Sophomore Laura Ballesteros dropped 6-2 in the No. 2 doubles. Freshman Ana Bjelica and Mary Bjelica did not finish their match in the No. 3 spot.

Lubbers was the lone Leatherneck to secure the win in No. 2 singles against Jelena Karla Vujicic. She now has one each of her singles match during the three-game stretch. Bravo fell 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles and Milanes lost 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 4 singles. Ana Bjelica took it to three sets (3-6, 6-4, 6-3) but couldn't pull out the victory.

Western are back in action tomorrow against St. Ambrose, first serve is set for 9 a.m.
