Men's Basketball Opens Up Home Slate Against North Park

  • Sophomores Kobe Webster and Isaac Johnson poured  in points for the Leathernecks at Creighton as they scored 24 and 19, respectively

Series History
This is the first meeting between the two teams.
 
Big Man On Campus: Last season, 7-footer Brandon Gilbeck was the first Leatherneck to garner the Summit League's Defensive 'Player of the Year' award since Terrell Parks in 2012-13. He is just the third player in school history to earn the accolade. After breaking the
program record for blocks in a single season in 2016-17 with 85, Gilbeck set the the Western Illinois career block record with 150 career swats. He currently boasts 179 career blocks. Gilbeck and the 6th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft Mo Bama were the only two players in the country to average at least 10.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.56 blocks and record less than 95 total fouls last season.
 
Mamba: Sophomore Kobe Webster put together a tremendous freshman campaign last year after leading the team in points (15.9 ppg) and assists (3.4 apg). The impressive year earned him a spot on the Summit League All-Newcomer team, the first Leatherneck to do so since Garret Covington in 2013-14. Webster was the first freshman to lead the Leathernecks in scoring since Covington in 2013-14. His season was highlighted by a 28-point performance that including eight assists against IUPUI on Nov. 28.
 
Knock Down The Long Ball: As a team, the Leathernecks have made a 3-pointer in 101-straight contests. The last time the Purple and Gold did not knock down at least one 3-pointer was December 30, 2014 against Anderson.
 
Scouting the Vikings: North Park begins its season with Western Illinois. For the Vikings, the game is a scrimmage and will not count for their overall regular season record. Last year, North Park was 5-20 and 1-15 in conference play.
