Women's Soccer Ready for Clash at Purdue Fort Wayne

Two games remain on the 2018-19 schedule.

MACOMB, Ill. — The Western Illinois women's soccer team travels to Purdue Fort Wayne on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: 
The Leathernecks (3-12-1, 0-6-0) registered two shots on goal a 3-0 loss on Senior Day to Denver (10-5-2, 6-1-0) on Sunday, Oct. 21.

Natalie Beckman crossed the ball into the box as Samantha Feller struck the ball into the bottom left corner of the net during the 19th minute. The Leathernecks trailed 1-0 at halftime and did not record a shot in the first half.
 
Meg Halvorson doubled the Denver lead with a shot from outside the box into the top right corner of the net in the 67th minute. Five minutes later, the ball was fought for in the box and Abbey Miller wound up tapping it into the back of the net for a 3-0 Pioneer advantage. Western Illinois was close to answering in the 76th minute when a header for Zoe Clarke hit the post followed by a shot from Lauryn Peters that was saved by the Denver goalkeeper.  
 
SCOUTING THE MASTODONS: 
Purdue Fort Wayne is currently 3-12-3 overall and 0-7 in Summit League play after a 7-1 loss against North Dakota on Sunday, Oct. 21. Western Illinois defeated the Mastodons 1-0 in Macomb off a game-winning goal by Emily Bollman last season.

Jason Burr is in his fifth season as the head coach of the Mastodons. Burr holds a 13-70-9 overall record at the helm. Freshman forward Kayla Wisniewski leads Purdue Fort Wayne with six goals and has added three assists. Senior forward Deanna Hecht is second on the team with five goals.  
 
PRIMEAU'S PREGAME QUOTE: 
"We face Purdue Fort Wayne this week and we really need a victory on the road," assistant coach Josee Primeau said. "We have a long trip ahead of us and it's really important that we can still keep the right attitude and work ethic going into Thursday's game."
 
LOOKING AHEAD: 
The Leathernecks complete the season at Omaha on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m.
