The Leathernecks aim for back-to-back wins

MACOMB, Ill. — Western Illinois women's soccer returns to Summit League play with a road matchup at Oral Roberts on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT:
A golden goal in the first overtime period by Madeline Edwards boosted the Western Illinois women's soccer team (3-10-1) to a 1-0 victory over Northern Iowa (6-6-2) on Tuesday, Oct. 9. The match was moved from the Cedar Valley Soccer Club in Waterloo, Iowa to the TBK Bank Sports Complex in Bettendorf, Iowa due to poor field conditions.

Both teams exchanged shots in the early going as Birgitta Sol Eggertsdottir collected a save in the eighth minute. Natalie Nagle fired a pair of shots in the 15th and 16th minute that were smothered by the Northern Iowa goalkeeper. The action picked up again near the final stretch of the first half when Zoe Clarke ripped on a shot on target that was knocked down by the Panther keeper in the 36th minute. One minute later, Sol Eggertsdottir stepped in front of a shot as the match entered halftime scoreless.

In the 49th minute, Jordyn Rolli sent a shot to Sol Eggertsdottir for her sixth save of the match. Ines Palmiero Herrera came into the game at goal in the 49th minute as well. She made crucial saves at the 77th, 80th and 86th minutes mark to help force overtime in a 0-0 match.

It did not take long for Western Illinois to break through in overtime. During the 95th minute, Madeline Edwards took the ball and deposited it into the back of the net for the golden goal and a 1-0 non-league win.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES:
Oral Roberts is currently 7-9-0 overall and 2-2 in Summit League play after a 1-0 win versus Purdue Fort Wayne on Sunday, Oct. 7. The Golden Eagles defeated the Leathernecks 3-0 in Macomb last season.

Roger Bush is in his sixth season as the head coach of the Golden Eagles after four seasons as an assistant. Bush was the 2016 Summit League women's soccer Coach of the Year and carries a 55-50-9 overall record at Oral Roberts. Junior forward Jordan Langebartels leads the team with seven goals and four assists. Senior forward Sierra Beall and sophomore defender McKenzie Edwards each scored three goals so far this season.

PRIMEAU'S PREGAME QUOTE:
"We are coming off a good win against Northern Iowa," assistant coach Josee Primeau said. "I thought the girls played well and bounced back from a couple tough losses. We have another long road trip coming up to Oral Roberts and the girls will have to really turn things around to help us get our first Summit League win on the road this weekend."

LOOKING AHEAD:
The Leathernecks head back to Macomb for senior day against Denver at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21.
