Men's Soccer Travels to Undefeated Missouri State

Leathernecks look for signature road win in non-league play.

MACOMB, Ill. — Western Illinois men's soccer hits the road for a non-league test against Missouri State at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 2.

LAST TIME OUT: 
The Western Illinois men's soccer team (2-5-3) played Oral Roberts (5-3-2) to a 1-1 draw on Saturday, Sept. 29.
 
Oral Roberts got on the board first in the 31st minute when Tanguy Guerineau's free kick deflected off of a defender on the Leathernecks wall into the right corner of the net. Jamison Kozar sent a pass inside the box to Christian Junna for the equalizer into the right corner of the net during the 41st minute.
 
The match was tied at the end of regulation and Kozar got a good look for a possible golden goal in the first overtime. His header attempt off a corner kick by Daniel Kadima was saved in the 98th minute. Still tied 1-1 in the second overtime, Tacuma Sadlow provided the only shot on goal in the 107th minute but it was corralled to preserve the tie.
 
SCOUTING THE BEARS: 
Missouri State is currently 5-0-3 overall following a 1-1 draw with Evansville. The last time these two teams met was Sept. 15, 2013 with the Bears outlasting the Leathernecks in overtime 2-1. Western Illinois is 3-5-1 in matches played in Springfield, Mo.

Jon Leamy enters his 27th season in charge of the Bears, making him the longest tenured head coach in program history. Leamy holds a 258-182-62 record as his team is one of Missouri State leads the Missouri Valley Conference in scoring offense with 16 goals so far this season. Sophomore forward Josh Dolling paces the Bears with eight goals and sophomore goalkeeper Michael Creek has recorded two shutouts along with 27 saves this season.  
 
LOOKING AHEAD: 
The Leathernecks return to Summit League play to face Eastern Illinois on the road on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 12 p.m.
