MACOMB, Ill.-
Western Illinois women's tennis defeated Omaha 6-1 on a beautiful day at home to win back-to-back conference matches. The Leathernecks improved to 8-12 overall and 2-1 in Summit League play while the Mavericks fall to 6-12 overall and 2-2 in the league.

"The girls did it again," head coach Mirko Bjelica said. "We are so excited about this win. It shows that our match at South Dakota was not a fluke but instead another hard earned win. Our work is starting to pay off and we hope to continue performing at the higher level."

Courtney Lubbers and Jenna Wallace grinded out a win in the No. 1 doubles match 7-6 (won tiebreaker 7-4) over Michelle Lo and Janelle Wilson. Natalia Bravo and Laura Ballesteros followed suit by cruising 6-2 in the No. 2 doubles spot. It was not a complete sweep as Kylie Boyer and Kenzie Hill bested the No. 3 duo of Anna Daniel Fuentes and Cary Milanes. Western still earned the doubles point and got off a strong 1-0 start.

Omaha's top singles player Lo lost the first set to Lubbers in the No.1 singles spot but rebounded the win the next two sets 6-2 and 10-6. Lo evened up the match early for the Mavericks 1-1.

Bravo, the Summit League women's tennis 'Player of the Week,' set the tone after losing the first set 6-4 to Janelle Wilson by taking the next two by the scores of 6-4 and 10-4.

At that point in the match, the Leathernecks would never look back as Anna Daniel Fuentes made easy work of Boyer 6-1, 6-2.

At the No. 4 singles matchup, Laura Ballesteros defeated Behling 6-4, 6-3. At the No. 5 spot, Jenna Wallace continued to play well by topping Rylee Tucker 6-4, 7-6.

Cary Milanes rounded out the singles matches with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 victory over Hill.

The 6-1 team win is Western's largest margin of victory over a NCAA Division I opponent this season.

Up next, the Leathernecks take a road trip to Oral Roberts on Saturday (April 15) with first serve set for 11 a.m.
