Missouri State Tops WIU in Women's Tennis

The Leathernecks fell 5-2 on a neutral court in Edwardsville, Ill.

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Western Illinois women's tennis lost to Missouri State Sunday (March 19) on a neutral site court in Edwardsville, Ill. The Leathernecks fell 5-2.

Western kicked off the event by grabbing the doubles points to begin the match. The combination of Courtney Lubbers/Jenna Wallace and Nicole Jones/Cary Milanes were both victorious. Lubbers/Wallace won their matchup 6-3, while Jones/Milanes won 6-2.

Missouri State then took five of the six points from singles play to grab the win. WIU's lone single victory came from Nicole Jones who won the No. 6 singles matchup 6-3, 7-5. In the No. 1 singles spot, Lubbers fell 6-3, 6-3, Natalia Bravo fell 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 in the No. 2 singles spot, Laura Ballasteros dropped the No. 3 singles spot 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, Wallace fell 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 4 spot, and Milanes fell in the No. 5 spot 6-3, 7-5.

WIU is back in action at home in Macomb on March 31 at 1 p.m. vs. IUPUI.
