Tennis Unable to Top Eastern Illinois

Leathernecks play host to Maryville tomorrow at 2 p.m.

GALESBURG, Ill. – The Western Illinois women's team played host to in state foe Eastern Illinois on Saturday (Feb. 11) where they fell by a score of 7-0. The Panthers improve to 6-0 overall while Western drops to 4-5.

"EIU is having a tremendous season and although we fought hard for three and a half hours we were not able to prevail," said head coach Mirko Bjelica. "We are looking to bounce right back tomorrow and continue to improve on our performance."

The Leathernecks found themselves down early as the Panthers claimed the doubles point when they swept Western in all three positions.

In the singles portion of competition, Courtney Lubbers dropped her match 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 1 spot, as did Natalia Bravo at No. 2. Anna Daniel Fuentes was edged 7-6 in her first set at No. 3 and felt 6-0 in the second set. Cary Milanes fell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 while Laura Ballesteros and Nicole Jones were also unable to secure victories at the No. 5 and 6 spots, respectively.

Western has a quick turnaround as they host Maryville tomorrow afternoon in Galesburg. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
